With my eyes, if I was looking for something I would go with #2 and #4.

Many thanks kit1980, hkv and Rodney

I found it interesting how the scales and the diatom seemed to fuse in both second images.

For what it's worth, it doesn't strike me that way. Looks like the diatom is sitting atop the scales to my eye.

Lovely image, altogether! Image 2, I mean - that's my overall favorite. Images 1 & 3 show diatom guts best (which are never easy to capture). 8-)

Without any permission I took it upon myself to do a little editing. Through the marvels of PSE13 I combined the best of photos 1 and 2 (in my humble opinion). If this is inappropriate I will delete it.

No problem lorez ... quite like it. What buttons did you press in PSE13?

Thanks for permission.

I dropped the background out of photo #1 leaving the diatom without a background. Then I pasted image #1 over image #2 as a new layer. I'm betting it took you longer to take the originals than it did for me to do my bit of editing.

Thanks KurtM,
Agree 1 and 2 are better, unfortunately the ones multiplied by the 1.25 Optovar did not work too well - not sure why,
perhaps I should have reset the camera WB for it.

Very nice images, but my favorite is the first (I don't mind out-of-plane-of-focus objects). As photo manipulation, I like lorez's version and am impressed by his expertise.

Thanks, gekko.

I pirated one of your images too. I'll post it when I have it finished.
