Re: Testate Amoeba in Darkfield
Very nice! That works very well.
Does look more like POL at extinction than just a plain darkfield ...

Re: Testate Amoeba in Darkfield
Thank you all. I agree it looks a little like crossed polars, but it was not. Pure darkfield.

Re: Testate Amoeba in Darkfield
Hello,
very impressive, though unnatural.
The technique does not show species details very clearly. It looks o me like a Difflugia acuminata with an abnormally short spine. Is it the same as the Difflugia Acuminata in your flicr-album?
Cheers,
Hans

Yes, I agree. Darkfield in these circumstances is more for the "good looks" rather than showing all details in perfect clarity. Yes, the flickr image is the same subject in polarized light. It was published on this forum here:cuxlander wrote:Hello,

True but nice to have "Pretty" pictures sometimes that show the hidden art in nature. Both to enjoy and to share with the uninitiated.Darkfield in these circumstances is more for the "good looks"

Re: Testate Amoeba in Darkfield
I love it. Its a peach.
On the real vs pretty front I am pretty much 100% on the pretty side. (Not that I have a problem with anyone who differs from me here)
In fact a testate amoeba is now on my medium term to do list.
Beauty. Real beauty.

Love it.
Shoot to make images that you like. Not many of us are breaking any new scientific ground, so making images that appeal is just as valid a reason as any to do what we do. Really great idea that worked out beautifully.
Well done!

Really beautiful image!
Re: Testate Amoeba in Darkfield
Sorry Hakan, if it sounded critically.
Yes I too like pretty pictures and beautiful colors, but
That's why I prefer your perfect "polarised" previous version.
Cheers,
Hans

I am not either. Simply, when I see a testate amoebae I want to know its name and family, my defect. Not many of us are breaking any new scientific ground

I just want to add that as 75RR indicated, at first blush I thought you used polarized light. Really nice.
