Same Spider:
From my earlier spider topic a few extra photo`s were requested.
Stereo scope x20, led lights from above.
Camera to eyepiece adapter, single image.
I may try a few more if needed.

Re: Same Spider:
Not sure but the alcohol bath for several days may have changed the eyes??
thanks for looking

Re: Same Spider:
Well, after a few days of heavy intake of alcohol, eyes tend to get red and blurry.

Re: Same Spider:
I have several I simply dried and pinned. Other than the abdomen shrinking the colors and "eyes" remain as when alive.
Re: Same Spider:
Most of what I have left einman is dried up insects, for a long time I had spider phobia esp. with some of the childhood dreams I had of black widow spiders when I was around 8-10 years old. I remember turning down the page of any science book that had a picture of one.
I continue to respect spiders and the benefits they play in the animal kingdom. The spider phobia I had has mostly went away except for the black widow. Dead when I find one.
I now enjoy looking at most spiders under magnification and try not to go out and kill many.

Re: Same Spider:
Arachnophobia is not uncommon. As I recall the eminent entomologist E.O. Wilson has arachnophobia. So you are in good company.Rodney wrote:Most of what I have left einman is dried up insects, for a long time I had spider phobia esp. with some of the childhood dreams I had of black widow spiders when I was around 8-10 years old. Re: Same Spider:
Nothing much has changed over the last eight days except the background color.
Before this specimen goes in the trash, any idea what makes the green florescent color?
Thanks for looking.

Re: Same Spider:
The green and gold colours on the fangs are no doubt interference colours. They could be caused by the fangs being covered with a number of semi transparent layers less than one wavelength thick, or more likely by some kind of uneven surface, where some light is reflected out of phase with some more light. a lot of modern colour filters work this way, especially in fluorescence.

As to what causes it to be that color you could be correct in regards to the composition.Microbeus wrote:The green and gold colours on the fangs are no doubt interference colours. In the book Spider Ecophysiology Mr. Foelix ( I have a few of his books) comments, "The body cuticle (e.g., chelicerae and eye lenses) may also be brightly colored due to light interference on many thin cuticular layers."
