That's a new one on me, and a super image of it as well.

Well done finding and imaging.

Great image and beautiful contrast.
What made you choose BF over DIC though? DIC and blue background may give it even better contrast/texture.

Zzzffnn, the BF gave the nice dark edges, which made the spines "pop" more - I think. I did take a series of DIC images - will stack them and put it up here when I get some time.

Here is the DIC version - I prefer the BF much more in this instance
(maybe I just suck at doing it properly  )

Thanks Johann.
I actually prefer the DIC version much more, as I like its internal details and internal contrast. But I understand people's preference may be different.

Hello Johann,
a beautiful creature, and beautiful picture. I too prefer the BF in this example. DIC does not give any extra information.
Do you mind if I add to your thread a side view image of this crown shaped organism?

Thanks Hans, that's a nice image. I used the stereo microscope to transfer it to the slide - and although small I saw the crown shape very nicely.

Johann, excellent image (and nice tonal gradation).
Hans, also very nice complementary image.
