Still Another Poinsettia

#1 Post by JimT » Fri Dec 16, 2016 9:48 pm

Last one I promise (Maybe) :) Any way two images both stained with red food dye and toluidine blue.

First one is with the 10X obj. from epidermis to hollow pith. Second one is with the 20X, a close up of the phloem and xylem.

Hi Jim

The red adds a nice element to the mix.

Nice sections and images.

You can get much better effect staining by clearing the sample before staining in lactic acid or clove oil to get them more transparent.

And another fine section and photos.
Clearing may improve it, but I like it as is.

What I also like is your experimentation with the food colouring along with the toludine blue.
It would be interesing to see what it looks like with the clearing for comparison.
Perhaps, for example that some of the original natural colours etc may actually improve matters for some subjects?

Nice work.

Billben74, stick around. I just ordered some lactic acid so we'll give it a try and see what it looks like.

I am learning a bit about botany and enjoying this.
