Diatoms from Leisure Lake
Diatoms from Leisure Lake
As discussed on the Doing Diatoms thread, I was sent a sand sample by Lorez which he collected from Leisure Lake near Fremont, Nebraska.
I have cleaned the sample and prepared slides and have finally gotten some images. So here we go.
AO 10, Ortho Illuminator, 100x Plan Achro Iris Oil, 1096 Toric Darkfield Condenser, Canon 70D, Single Frames, captured under green filtration and converted to grayscale in post.

Very nice, Rod!
The centric form and the unidentified 41 micron are very interesting and nice looking.

Wow, wonder what #3 is? Looks almost like a marine diatom with those huge pores...

I had the same reaction.
I couldn't conclusively ID it, but thought this might be a possibility

More subtle beauty.
Love the shape of Rhopalodia, almost like a clothes hanger.

The Rhopalodia is really a beautiful form. Even more striking when you find them unseparated. Fantastic detail.
