I finally had a chance to look at the slides of the diatoms from Leisure Lake (courtesy of Rod) and take a couple of photos.
I would like to thank Rod for sending several very professionally prepared slides. All the diatoms were right at the cover slip and scanning the slide was very easy, except for the given limitation of the field of view, but there was so much variety it did not present a problem.
Of course I am impatient to post a photo so there is no identification or scale bar. I will add an editorial comment here: This was one of the larger specimens in the sample
This is a single frame and that raises the question of where to focus for the most effective representation.

Hi Lorez,
The sample you sent was a very good one, lots of diversity, and many interesting forms.
It is always difficult to choose the focus point on these, just what feature is most interesting and "deserves" the best focus is tough to decide. I see some stacking in your future... ;^)
For what it is worth, I saw a the same type of form, and mine measured 48um.
Nicely done all around, and thanks again for sharing the sample.
