Algae in fluorescence

#1 Post by kinase » Mon Jan 16, 2017 3:27 pm

These are Guillardia theta which is entirely unrelated to Giardia lamblia. That's easy to tell if you look at the names, but hearing people pronounce the genus might lead you to believe otherwise. These have phycoerythrin. Hence when I hit them with a blue light, they fluoresce in this nice yellowish color. They also have chlorophyll and will show red as well.

The quality of this video doesn't seem too good. I'm not sure what the deal is. I think I was binning the sensor (i.e. video is only 800x600) too but I don't remember. I also feel like I took a different video and this isn't the one I meant to bring home. Even the 50 pixel thing looks blurry somehow.
