#1 Post by kit1980 » Wed May 24, 2017 7:04 am

A conifer pollen grain from an air sample (downtown Bellevue, WA, USA, May 2017).
Stained with iodine, mounted in CytoSeal, 100x objective, oblique illumination.

A large grass pollen grain from the same slide (> 80 microns, may be corn pollen):

Very nice and interesting images.
How do you collect your air samples?

Thank you for the comments!

The sample collection is extremely simple - I just left several cover slips outside for a week.

Nice samples. Two other ways to collect pollen is with two sided clear tape or Vaseline on the exposed slide.

Thanks!
I know that professional samplers use some kind of sticky substances for mostly quantitative sampling.
My goal is getting pretty pictures, and I don't mind waiting several days to get decent density, so I don't want to use any sticky substances that almost certainly will degrade image quality.
