Adventures in Benzoic Acid, Orange G and Citric Acid
Adventures in Benzoic Acid, Orange G and Citric Acid
Hello all.
I tired mixing Orange G, Benzoic Acid and Citric Acid in 50% methyl cellusolve (2-methoxyethanol) 50 % ethanol as you do.
Ok, the Orange G was in this solvent as it was part of recipe for doing Johanson's Quad stain I used while back to stain some daffodyl ovaries.
Anyway its fairly cool from the crystal point of view -> although word of warning I got a bit on my skin and got an unpleasent allergic reaction including a little lip swelling [no I didn't touch my lip with it] -> use gloves/goggles and be careful (I will now!)
I think it was the benzoic acid but I'm not about to conduct a scientific experiment.
Anyway some interesting crystals
Big stitch some stack.
Smaller stitch and stack. Big stitch some stack
Some stitch some stack.
Small stitch.

All are nice, but that last one is a stunner!

Good stuff. I must try something like this one day!
Zeiss Jena NF, Zeiss Standard 18 and WL

Great stuff! I like the "intergalactic vessel approaching" the best! Must be a Klingon "Bird of prey". By far the best intergalactic vessel I have tried.

Otherworldly. Very cool.

Many thanks IanW, hkv, Francisco and JimT
I like the intergalactic vessel one too! I have had lots of colourful crystal images, but fewer that are subtle like that one.
Its amazing how a some crystal slides can show such variation, ok so its a mixture, but the solution is apparently well mixed when put on the hot plate in the test-tube prior to placing on the slide.
