Podophrya. The suctoria that becomes ciliate

#1 Post by Francisco » Thu Sep 14, 2017 4:43 pm

In this video we observe how a suctoria protozoan, in this case Podophrya, is "transformed" into a ciliate.
Actually it is the process of dividing the Podophrya suctory during which it develops a ciliated zoospora.
We can see how the tentacles of succión are diminishing of size at the same time that they are developing cilia

Beautiful accomplishment of dispersal stage formation, right to completion. Thank you Francisco for this microscopy. What magnification objective did you use? Did you need to 'feed water' to this wetmount slide during the time of this event? Great microscopy, Fransico! Charlie guevara

That's a terrific video, Francisco! I especially like it that you were able to catch the completion of the process. I think the diatom cruising around actually adds to the video both aesthetically and in interest. If I had done this video, I would consider it one of my very best ones.

Thank you very much for the comments.

Gracias a Francisco por esta microscopia. ¿Qué objetivo de aumento usaste? ¿Necesita 'agua de alimentación' a esta diapositiva ideal durante el tiempo de este evento? ¡Gran microscopia, Francisco! I was able to film the whole process without adding water. It was a relatively "short" process.

Really interesting video.
Nice biology!
Makes you wonder about the genomes of these things and the relationships between them.
