Finally got a chance to catch some pix of diatoms in phase contrast.

Here is the slide. no makers info, but label says Circle Group Diatomaceae 5/1 on one end,and Walfisch Bay S. Africa Styrax.

Each objective is listed above the picture for reference,
but here are some more details.
Nikon Optiphot, halogen illumination
Nikon 10x/0.25 160/- Ph1 DL
Nikon Plan 20x Ph2 DL
Nikon Plan 40 DL. 0.65. 160/0.17 Ph3
Canon EOS 7D on a pigtail to a laptop running the EOS utility to capture images.
Photoshop Elements 13 auto smart fix
As far the species, I don’t know any more than is written on the labels.
