The chemical Methyl Violet is frequently used as a stain for cloth (textiles) and some medical purposes.
When the dye is dissolved in alcohol and evaporated on a slide it produces beautiful crystal formations.

The photos were taken with a Canon 5D MkII through a Nikon PL2.5x eyepiece on a Labomed LB-592 microscope.
Post processing was done in the Colour Science Image Editor.
The panorama image (#4) was stitched together with Microsoft's ICE.
The 50x & 100x photos (#8 & #7) were composited with the Lightroom Enfuse plugin.

Image #1 is in Plane Polarized light, all other images were with Crossed Polars.
