Bio Lab for Kids

#1 Post by hkv » Sun Nov 05, 2017 7:52 pm

A couple of weeks ago we took our kids to a science day where they learned to write code for robots. Also, they had a Bio Lab where they practiced DNA extraction from banana and learned how to grow bacteria from their fingers on agar plates. After a few weeks the agar plats had turned into an interesting compilation of disgusting things. Of course, that had to be examined through a microscope. Here are some images:

That looks like a fun day!

Those may be Staphylococcus species, which are commensals on human skin. You may be able to exact their DNA at home with a lab kit, then send DNA for commercial sequencing/identification to find out which species. It should not be too expensive nowadays.

Great day with your kids. To me they look like egg yokes - not your kids :D
