Timid ciliated. Live in a gelatinous barrel in which he takes refuge at the slightest sign of danger

Nice video, Francisco!

This is Stichotricha secunda (Stichotricha aculeata has no zoochlorellae). Kahl confused the two species, and many authors have followed him, but Foissner et al. sorted out the taxonomy in 1991 (see the first volume of Taxonomische und ökologische Revision der Ciliaten des Saprobiensystems p. 210) .

Thanks Bruce for the explanation.
It seems that it is a very widespread confusion even in identification pages: http://protist.i.hosei.ac.jp/PDB/Images ... p_06b.html

Yes, the confusion is very common, thanks to Kahl's little mistake. :D The Protist Information Server is a useful resource, but contains a lot of outdated taxonomy and some questionable identifications.

The genus Stichotricha has not had a thorough revision since Kahl, but Hu & Song supply a handy table of marine and freshwater species, listing the main taxonomic characters: https://link.springer.com/article/10.10 ... 35?LI=true

Incidentally, "Stichotrichia", with the suffix "ia", is the name of a subclass proposed by Denis Lynn (approximately identical to the subclass Hypotrichia). The genus name is "Stichotricha".

Excellent video as always! You captured some incredible detail, I am really enjoying seeing DIC video's. While the images are always stunning, seeing video of DIC is really something incredible.

Thanks for sharing!
