Hi all, I've finally had a chance to try Rheinberg illumination. My new 'scope had no filter tray beneath the condenser - only a swing-out bullyseye lens to fill the FOV of the 4x objective with light completely. The ever helpful Brunel sent me another condenser free of charge, that does have said filter tray (use here of a frosted filter for the x4 objective will fill it's FOV just the same as the old bullseye lend did).
Tonight I had my first attempt, I cut a yellow acetate 'filter' to fit the tray, and stuck several layers of opaque sticky circles of about 8mm diameter in the center of the acetate disk....
Here's the result
I got very luck here with my first go - can't wait to try some more....
regards

Great!!!
I like trying different Rheinberg filters. You can get totally different looks and if you do one you don't like, you can throw it away and move on to the nexr one.
Very good image. Good DOF throughout the FOV.

Thanks JimT. I think I'll definitely have a try at some more techniques involving lighting and oblique illumination too - there's a whole world of alternative images waiting to be discovered! The 'half-moon' type of stops are intriguing.....JimT wrote:Great!!!

What a universe of creative opportunities this brings.
I have a set of filters printed to try myself, after seeing this, I am excited
Nice job. Looking forward to your next creation.
