Copepod Egg Sacks

#1 Post by hkv » Sun Jan 14, 2018 10:52 pm

It has been a while since I posted. Work is killing me so not much time spent behind the eye pieces I am afraid. However, thought I would share this little lady. In dark field with polarised light.

Both are fantastic. Such a nice Cyclops lady.

Don't let work get in the way.

Very nice! Thank you for sharing, Hakan.

The Copepod photo was taken with 10x objective, I am guessing? How many frames did you use for that stack?

Beautiful copepod and cladoceran water fleas, thanks, hkv. The brick red pigments in the copepods egg sacks are interesting...often I just observe discrete 'eye spots' of a red pigment in copepod individual eggs in the egg clusters. I only use BF, DF, or dl phase illuminations, when I observe the distinct 'eye spots' of the pleasing pigment color you share with us here.

The carapaces of both these crusteaceans really show a texture reminding me of when I shell and eat shrimp with cocktail sauce! Charlie guevara

Yes, 10X. 26 images in the stack. Stacked in Helicon Stacker.

Charlie G, I don't know what the red pigment are. Oil drops perhaps as nutrition to the embryo? The eye spots are also visible in most eggs.
