As usual...no idea what it is!

#1 Post by McConkey » Tue Feb 20, 2018 1:24 am

I take great shame in essentially knowing absolutely nothing of the things i find when i'm slide surfing! Sometimes it turns out to be something interesting...other times not so much!

For your viewing pleasure i give you....something!

Still working on post processing and stacking to figure out what gives the best results.
Quick sharpen in PS prior to stacking in Zerene (PMax) then back over to PS for a levels adjustment and resize!

Thanks for viewing!

Take no shame! Most things I have no idea of as well. But I post them here and often times someone knows exactly what it is. For me, I see anything I don't recognize as a learning opportunity. Sadly, I too have no idea what it is you photographed but it is a very nice image.

There is always something to discover! :D

I believe that is an amoeba test. A broken one. Of course I am often wrong.

I sort of thought that as well but then there's the very delicate structure on the outside (tests seem to be much more rough) and the internal structure that looks like a dividing wall. Could this be a type of diatom?

Of course, I have no idea what I'm talking about so feel totally free to offer other suggestions!

Pat and Eddie - Your suggestions and input are greatly appreciated, thank you! Especially considering i have zero idea what i'm looking at 100% of the time! I thought it was a dragon eye! :?

Bruce - Again, Thank you...If i could just transfer your knowledge to my own brain that would be really helpfull! In return...ermm you are welcome to any of the vast knowledge i have on...erm...frequencies and the wonders of wavelength and amplitude!? haha no? dammit! I didn't think you'd go for it!

Arcella and amoeba test...more to add to my research list!

Thanks again!

Rather than flood the forum with multiple posts I think i'll just keep adding images to this thread as more than likely i will have no idea what it is i'm posting pictures of!!

Found this as the slide was drying up so i had to be quick. Still playing around with processing and getting used to DIC, had some funky vignetting going on which i need to figure out but managed to keep it under control with photoshop. Decided to loose most the colour on this one as it looked better!

I'll not hazard a guess here -- I just want to say those are a couple wonderful images!

Thanks for your identification. One thing I'm curious about -- It looks like there is some sort of structure within the shell. Is that normal? I had thought of the tests as being more like a pot without a divider. Or, am I just seeing it wrong?

I think the thin, proteinaceous material of the shell is a bit crumpled, as well as cracked.
