A protozoan
A protozoan
A ciliate, but that is as far as I can confidently identify it (too many genuses that look similar to my untrained eye), but I would certainly appreciate any suggestions. Objective: 20x, phase-contrast (left) and darkfield (right).
Re: A protozoan
Very nice.
Did you happen to record camera settings?

Thank you! Yes (they get recorded in the EXIF): the phase-contrast (left) image: 1/250 s, the darkfield image: 1/50 s; both at ISO 200. I did mean to give the information (I usually try to do that with fast-moving critters) but I totally forgot75RR wrote:Very nice.

Jon B and Seb28, thank you very much for your very kind comments.
75RR, EXIF file is a file that is saved by digital cameras as part of the image file and contains metadata that includes, among other things, make and model of camera, shutter speed used, maximum aperture (f/stop) of the lens, actual f/stop used for taking the picture, lens focal length, distance where the camera focused, ISO setting, weather the flash fired, and so on. If you use a program to look at the pictures on your computer (e.g. I use Xnview) then it may be capable of displaying the EXIF data (a "button" or a menu item labeled "info" or EXIF or something like that). There are extensions for internet browsers that allow you to look at the metadata of images on the web (I use Firefox with Exif Viewer [ http://araskin.webs.com/exif/exif.html ] where I click with the right mouse button over an image on the web and it will show me the metadata unless they have been removed from the image file). Images uploaded directly to this forum do not contain the data and some image hosting sites also remove them).
