Yes, so little color in what I observe I've taken to adding a little green water weed to my samples.
Well composed picture 75

Do you take any special precautions using salt water samples on your microscope?

Thanks coominya, algae are one of the most colourful things to view - but this is the first pink one I find.

I just place a maximum one or two drops of sea water on the slide, so no overflow when I add the cover slip.
I do this off the microscope - if I need to replenish water I remove the slide from the microscope to do it. Something I did not do with fresh water - but perhaps should have anyway!

Isolated zygote I also came across Size: 45µm

I wonder what it will become?
Would be great to see a video of one dividing in time lapse

Beautiful! I believe the pink is a red algae, Polysiphonia. I could be wrong

Thanks for the ID tip.

Came across this, though have not found an exact match within it as yet. http://www.flora.sa.gov.au/efsa/algae_r ... niaKey.pdf

Funny you should ask. I had quite a lot of work given to me that involved standing at a workbench for hours on end over several days, and my feet began killing me. The bright idea I had for a solution was to fix up a desk next to my work station as a mini microscope lab, then I took a break to visit several points along the local river to collect specimens. Afterwards, I took sit down breaks periodically to examine my catch with care. Nothing extraordinary found, but still great fun, highly interesting, and useful data. Best of all, my feet got the breaks they needed and I completed all my tasks before time to leave to the next destination.

I consider bringing the imaging bits along, but it's just too ambitious with all the other things I bring along and do. I stay awfully busy on these trips, which is just how I like it. I'm only halfway through, will surely do more collecting, and shall keep all worthwhile samples for processing and mounting back home.
