2nd pol attempt, better colour (sugar alternative Xylitol)

Found my ideal substance

This stuff is perfect for my needs - ie no special knowledge or techniques involved. I had it in my cupboard for use in place of sugar - a lucky find it seems!


I just put a few spoonfuls into a cup and pour a splash of boiling water in, swirl it around and pipette a drop onto a slide - spread it across the surface and then either wait for crystals or use heat to speed up the process.
That's it.

Taken with canon 1000D - on my olympus BHTU(!) (really happy to now have this setup!), leitz and olympus objectives. 4x 10x plan.

Yeah much more colour to this substance - that, or i've managed to make the crystals better, as i'm sure aspirin can look good when done right (which is what i used last time). Either way, i was glad to find something easier to work with.
