Getting back into photomicrography - pol crystal shots

#1 Post by MikeA » Fri Apr 06, 2018 5:44 pm

Hello All,

I had been away from the hobby since about 2007-8 or thereabouts - off doing other things and then retiring in 2010. Recently got the 'bug' and pulled everything out, tried to remember how much of it worked, and started taking some shots.

Had been using a Nikon D200 dSLR mounted on a Nikon UFX DX shutter system and it worked OK, but the relay lens I have is a 2.5X and for the small sensor in the camera I need a 1.67X to get a decent sized FoV.

At any rate, decided to go back to using the Coolpix P&S cameras that I used back in the early 2000's with some good results.

These photos are made using a Coolpix e5000, Leitz Periplan 10X as a relay lens (screws into the lens adaptor.)

Would appreciate your input.

Dumped Photobucket and these are with Imgur. Boy is this a PITA!

All the best,

Mike

The images are hidden inside a photobucket, invisible

Hmmm... not sure why that would be - pretty sure I followed the posting instructions for pics. Any suggestions on what I might have done wrong? I can see the photos in the thread.

Photo bucket charge you additional license for linking the pics to any online forum. If you use photobucket for free, they block your pics until you have paid,

Hi Mike,

one thing that has changed in the last decade is that Photobucket has decided to steer into bancrupcy by trying to force private users to pay vast amouts of money to keep using third party hosting.
So you urgently need a better upload service or just attatch your images to you posts directly here in the forum.

Bob

Hello Bob,

In that case I will find another place to host the photos! It did not say anything about needing to pay, but not surprised.

Have to look for alternate site.

Thanks,
Mike

Many people who had put links into forums to their photos hosted at Photobucket had the problem that their images were no longer visible in the foums unless they pay a big yearly sum. Since nobody pays this amout of money many forum threads in all forums now have lost their images...

Hello all,

OK - dumped Photobox and have the photos posted through Imgur - not exactly fun, but guess it is better than nothing.

They show up as links now... following the links is a little unhandy but it works... gorgeous photos.

Hello CE,

Thanks for the response and kind words - yep, really a PITA in most ways, but just do not see a lot of alternatives to post full sized shots with all the detail.

Open for any alternatives - there must be a better way.

Mike
