Cosmarium
Cosmarium
I just got a new darkfield (oil) condenser for my scope which I have been playing around with. Also, bought a retarder (wedge plate) which generates a lot of nice colors! This subject is Cosmarium, a desmid.

Re: Cosmarium
Please don't be offended, but they look kind of other-world science fiction like with that illumination. Maybe like the brains of some alien life forms.
Amazing photos! Under ordinary bright field they would look kind of plain by comparison.

Thanks, yes, Darkfield gives a special look to it. Better than DIC actually.75RR wrote:Beautiful darkfield image - love the clarity!

Re: Cosmarium
Besides the alien brain image the polarized image really shows off the crystals. I think you will like the retarder plate.
