Re: more centric diatoms
Hello 75!
Well done, I like especially the last photo.
What slider works with the Planapo 40/1,0 oil objective? I never found a good combination for this obejctive.

Thanks ImperatorRex,
I use the Plan 40x/0.65 slider with it. It seems to sort of work ok.
Here is a link to a thread where several combinations of 'non dedicated DIC objectives' are tested in case you have not come across it yet:

Re: more centric diatoms
Great Link, thank you. With my Zeiss Planapo 40/1.0 the Plan 40 slider did not work. Seems Zeiss made different variants of the objective.
Re: more centric diatoms
Rather than the objective or the slider it may be the condenser Wollaston prism that is at fault. With my Zeiss Planapo 40/1.0 the Plan 40 slider did not work. Seems Zeiss made different variants of the objective.
I have seen different catalogue numbers on some of them. Mine has 43 44 05 ≧ 40 and 43 44 04 ≦ 16

Re: more centric diatoms
There are two different sets of DIC prisms. One set with the 1.40 NA tops, are used in regular upright microscopes as the Universals, Photomicroscopes, WL, 18 etc. There is the other set which is used for long working distance scopes with the 0.63 NA tops, and is used in the inverteds, like the ICM 405, IM 35, Optons etc.75RR wrote:Rather than the objective or the slider it may be the condenser Wollaston prism that is at fault. With my Zeiss Planapo 40/1.0 the Plan 40 slider did not work. Re: more centric diatoms
Hi Charles & 75,
if I remember correctly, I tried with both condensors & I did not find a working combination. I even tried the Planneofluar slider 40/0,90 without success for the Planapo 40/1,0.
You are very lucky with your Planapo 40/1,0.... it has a very large working distance, a big advantage compared to Planapo 40/0,95 korr or Planneofluar 40/0,90.
The only other Objective with such a large working distance is the Neofluar 63/1,20...but I also was not able to identify a working DIC setup yet. The DIC old somehow works but it has large gradients.

That's an interesting chart - Curious as to why it indicates that the 43 44 07 prism from the 0,63 NA condenser works with both the Planapochromat 63/1,4 and the 100/1,25
Are the 43 44 05 and the 43 44 07 prisms interchangeable yet not identical?

There is an "*" with footnote that objectives > 1,0 n.A. only can be used with "limitations"
No, the 43 44 05 really only works with the frontlense 1.4 n.A. and 43 44 07 only with 0,63 n.A.75RR wrote:Are the 43 44 05 and the 43 44 07 prisms interchangeable yet not identical?
On the IM35 I have the two prisms that are supporting the 0,63 n.A Frontlense (Position I and II). In Position III (usually empty) I installed in addition the 43 44 05 prism. So when I use the high n.A. Objectives I substitute the 0,63 n.A frontlense with 1,4 n.A. Frontlense, so I can use the full n.A. together with the prism in position III.
Re: more centric diatoms
Good plan. Nice to see position III actually used by someone! On the IM35 I have the two prisms that are supporting the 0,63 n.A Frontlense (Position I and II).
