Marine Tardigrade
Marine Tardigrade
Thought at first that the sample had been contaminated, but an internet search confirmed that they are found not only on moss and in fresh and salt water but also in outer space. See: Star Trek: Discovery ;)
Tardigrade was tangled belly up on some detritus - video slowed to 50%

Tangled up, I thought the little guy was just playing up for the camera, because of the way he looked over at the end.
Great clip, good detail in the claws.

I love it! Thank you for sharing!
Re: Marine Tardigrade
Great video! The marine tardigrade doesn't look too different from fresh water forms.

Re: Marine Tardigrade
Early in February-March, I collected a diatom sample off a local tide flat featuring mud laying exposed due to ultra low tides driven off by strong north winds. I was greatly surprised to discover the surface muck loaded with zillions and zillions of tardigrades! I think I posted about it, but don't really recall. I ran away from home the first of March and am still on the road (expect to return home mid-May).
So yeah, marine tardigrades. I can dig it.

Re: Marine Tardigrade
Thanks for sharing this terrific marine water 'bear encounter', 75RR. Do you find extra caution, extra care with salt waters on your stands is needed? I would guess that salt waters may cause so much more havoc with objective lens, with stage metals, etc..
Myself being finger lakes/ US land locked...I really enjoy your live marine waters microscopy, 75RR...thanks and good Spring'18! Charlie guevara
