Yes, southern coast of Spain. There were quite a lot of them in this sample. Had to throw it away in the end. Will see what the next one brings.

I am still looking for centrosymmetric ones... the "closest" form that I find are elliptical, possibly Cocconeis...

Hobbyist46, I'm sure your day will come if you keep at it. I recall having trouble finding centrics when I first took particular interest in diatoms, but somewhere along the line they became fairly frequent in FW samples, although quite small. In marine and fossil samples you run into lots more, and considerably larger.

75, those images are just awesome! You have really been making me miss my WL, which I should return to in one week. (If my home and contents are still there, that is - I haven't seen the place since March 1. I haven't had a lot of luck with diatoms this trip, mostly been studying pollen.)
