Single marine beastie

#1 Post by 75RR » Mon Jun 04, 2018 9:14 am

Plan 16x/0.35, DIC, 750µm, two stack stitch in Photoshop
Plan 0/0.65, DIC, 19 image stack in Photoshop

By the time I came across it, it had already been pinned by the cover slip - so I was unable to observe its movement.
If it were larger, I suppose it might be called a Sea Dragon. At 3/4 of a millimeter it does not quite make the grade.

Very fine images!

Any idea what it might be? The overall shape looks familiar, kind of like the freshwater annelid worms Aeolosomatidae of uncertain affinities. But the Aeolosomatidae don't live in marine environments as far as I know, and they don't have the fin like structures on the posterior end.

Here is a picture of one (not mine, copied from the internet):

But I also found this in a list of marine worms:

Thanks desertrat

funnily the 'catch' that reminded me of an Aeolosoma was this one (see video):

only its spots were not the bright coloured ones that are I think characteristic + I also thought they were only found in fresh water.

As to the mini sea dragon - I have not found anything quite like it yet on my searches.
