Ghost Nauplius (Marine)

#1 Post by 75RR » Sun Jun 17, 2018 6:02 am

Planapo 40x/1.0, DIC, 2 stack stitch in Photoshop
Pinned body (by cover slip) remained pretty much still but it kept flicking its antenna

Very nice photo!
I guess that slightly less sharp regions are due to the shallow of depth of focus of the objective and limitation of DIC, not only the movements?

Many thanks hkv and Hobbyst46

Stacking is the solution to a shallow depth of field - in this case there were about 25 images in each stack - So I vote for movement + perhaps the objective (still seeing what my delaminated Planapo can actually do) + inevitably the equipment operator.
Also ghosts are notoriously difficult to photograph which is why not many people believe in them. ;)

Another great image! Does the subject look a bit like a copepod nauplius?

Know what you mean, it was on my wish list for a long time before I lucked into one.

I thought so. This is from the same sample that had several copepods in it. Can't say which one it will become though.
