New to me rotifer

#1 Post by Crater Eddie » Thu Mar 05, 2015 4:54 am

I was looking through some filamentous algae from my Dad's Pond culture bottle, when I came upon this interesting looking rotifer: 10x objective

These are heavily processed, trying to pull out as much detail as possible, I hope it's not too much.
I have never seen one of these before. Browsing through the Rotifer ID Key, I'm thinking Testudinella.

Hi Les
I think you're right it being a Testudinella - maybe patina (but I could be wrong !)

This fellow was gorgeous under dark field illumination, but I could not get a photo to turn out.

Very nice. I wish you also focused on the alga filament in another photo-- it looks very beautiful.

The algae was my original target, I was trying to get some good dark field shots until this fellow wondered by.
Some of this algae was simply gorgeous, I do plan to go back to this bottle and get some good bright field shots of it, as my camera doesn't handle DF very well.
