Philodendron sections

#1 Post by rnabholz » Sun Mar 08, 2015 5:14 am

Got a real microtome knife and took it for an inaugural run. It is a real pleasure to use.

Philodendren leaf, cross and longitudinal cuts. 20x and 45x objectives - afocal with Nexus 6 phone.

Nice images.

Do you mean like a barber's razor?
Whatever it is it certainly works well.
How do you keep it sharp - do you use a leather strop?

Post photo of it please.

Thanks everyone.

It is an actual microtome knife.

I found it on eBay, formerly property of the University of Wisconsin, now it is all mine.

Made by AO Spencer, it includes the blade, detachable handle, honing guide and case. It is used, but not much.

I will be doing some research as to best practices for maintaining it.

Here is a shot of it

That is way better than a barber's razor. Well done.
