I am including some photomicrographs, some I took 45 years ago and others from the past year. I believe photomicrography can produce art as do many others and hoping to share some "artsy" photomicrographs from time to time.
I purchased a DIC microscope about a year ago and to justify the expense I try to photograph as often as I can. Like others I started with a toy microscope from Sears then graduated to an Olympus E microscope that I have owned for over 25 years and also buy used microscopes, refurbish some of them and also keep some. There are great buys to be had if one is willing to be patient and do some homework.
I have read that scientists estimate there maybe as many as 30,000 species of ciliates, mix that with the other organisms and there are an awful lot of species to learn to identify. I have invested in numerous books, and have made some friends on the net who are experts in certain fields and that really helps. Also finding lots of good free PDFs and science papers that are quite helpful. I recently set up a small freshwater aquarium for invertebrates so I can photograph throughout the winter.
Cheers
