Oligochaete worm

#1 Post by janvangastel » Sun Feb 24, 2019 7:37 pm

I found an oligochaete worm, but don't know the species name. Maybe someone knows. To give an idea of the size: the width of the FOV is a little less then 2 millimeters. Used my 10x objective.

Nice catch! Can't help with the ID but it does have a curious rather leech like form of locomotion.

I take it you have not sorted out a Periplan for the photo tube yet?

This looks like a Chaetogaster to me. They have hook-like ventral setae, but are missing the dorsal setae typical of other little oligochaetes.

I have a periplan, but the images are not as good as the images (and video's) I take with the relay lens setup. And the field is very small. But I am not done experimenting yet.

Perfectly possible. In wikipedia I read that Chaetogaster is a genus within the order of Oligochaete. I just started to look for these creatures, so I don't know much about them.
