Thank you gentlemen.
I wasn’t sure it would make a difference, but it seems to have impacted the evaporation pattern.

I have considered a DIY vacuum chamber chamber for a few experiments. A couple of questions please.
Were you using a commercial vacuum chamber?
What was the vacuum measurement and did it vary?
I presume the vacuum was held until sample was completely dry.

Thanks,
jim

Jim,
Commercial two quart vacuum chamber and pump by BAC
-30 Hg. Stayed steady

Dried completely in vacuum
Took much longer than I was expecting.

Thanks for the reply Radazz. I've wondered about the use and possible effect of vacuum in crystallography. Yes, it can take a fairly long time for the solutions or colloidal dispersions to dry even in normal atmosphere. I find the nicer crystals more often with slower growth but do use a slide warmer quite frequently with good results. I'm not always so patient an individual. :)
