It stopped for a rest after a bit and I was able to photograph it.

Plan 40x/0.65, DIC, 300µm length, 2 stacks stitched in Photoshop

Attractive diatom, especially since it is so rich in pigments.

Thanks Hobbyst46, yes it is very attractive. I was pleased when I found it. Had hoped to do more with it - perhaps with the next one.

Very nice detail and structure. Seems the diatom is just leisurely on his merry little way. Out of curiosity, if I may ask, how are you coupling your µ43 camera to the microscope? Cheers. -Norm

Afocal setup placed on a tripod to avoid vibrations.

Hmm, why didn't I think of that. I'm searching all over the evil auction site for a special adapter/coupler. I'll have to give that a try, thanks for idea. Cheers. -Norm

Few things look as happy as Diatoms with wanderlust. And fairly mind-blowing to think they're plants!

Read this SYFY story many, many years ago... Still remember it...

The book was much better than the movie.

Very nice image 75RR and I very much liked the Star Wars battle cruiserish way in which the diatom glided unstoppably across the screen while lesser creatures wiggled (cringed?) in the background!

As for "The Day of the Triffids", I have enjoyed all of John Wyndham's SF novels several times now - I particularly enjoy SF set in the present day, or very near future, and most of Wyndham's novel are like that.

Cheers
Tom
