Sodium ascorbate

#1 Post by Wes » Sun Jun 02, 2019 11:50 am

I'd like to share an image of a sodium ascorbate crystal. I feel this can be a lot of fun if one sits down and carefully optimizes the concentration of the chemical and has the means to control crystallization rates. Growing large flat crystals would make for some excellent interference patterns. I will leave a few slides in the fridge and check on them in 1-2 days.

Hi Wes,
beautiful crytal image!
I always find it astonishing that even these seemingly flat crystals have a depth structure and hills and valleys.

Thanks Bob, I also find it amazing how intricate crystals can get when you take a closer look. My fridge experiment failed dramatically, I'm not even sure where all the vitamin C went. Maybe next time..

Another crystal of sodium ascorbate, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd order interference bands are visible.
