Excellent image! Really nice quality.

Do you blur the background? It looks so smooth.

Thanks Wes, most kind.

I usually tidy up a little bit but in this case I did more than usual in order to cover up a particularly messy and distracting background.

There are several ways to do this.

The Recipe: I created a duplicate layer, sampled an area for colour, darkened it a little and then used a large paintbrush at 50% opacity to build up the background.

I then used the eraser to uncover those parts of the diatom that I had painted over.

Beautiful and clear image! This diatom is not very big but you managed to show it with a lot of detail and esthetic look.

How do you make such a high quality image fit within the restrictions of max 512kB 1024x1024 pixels? I'm struggling with uploading my images in such a way that they present a clear image of the organism as well as fit within the allowed boundaries.

These are the details of the image. Does not take many bytes to get a decent image on a monitor.

If however you want to keep the quality as high as possible, you can upload it to a image hosting site and then link it. I used to use Photobucket before they went insane.

Very slick 75rr what software do you use to edit the images? I have just (last night) downloaded LightZone but have not had a chance to use it yet in anger, just a brief look at it.

Hi Roldorf,

I use Photoshop as my photo editing software. I also use it for stacking.

There are however cheaper alternatives for photo editing (which do much the same job) and there are better options for stacking.

I have no complaints on Photoshop's photo editing, as to the stacking - I always find something better to do with the money (i.e. buy an objective) once I have saved enough to try one of the dedicated software packages.
