This is from another of MicroBob's slides.
Unfortunately I managed to wipe the writing off the slide when I cleaned it. Only thing I could make out was the number 30

Beauriful!
The monochrome setting was a wonderful choice, imho.

Hi Glen,
nice images! Are these stacked DIC images? The spikes of the radiolaria are used for identification as far as I know, probably quite a special art.
In the german forum an interesting image editing method was shown recently. I like the way the transparent structures are rendered in the last image: https://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/index. ... ic=41955.0

Thanks MicroBob,
yes images are stacked, numbers on the images indicate how many images used.
In the last one I think it comes to 148, they are very 3D and the depth of field of the 63x is rather shallow!
Those are great images you linked to. I will see if I can improve on what I have done.
I wonder if better images can be obtained with my 40x/1.0 oel
Can you remember where the Radiolarians are from?

Re: Radiolarians
Before the invention of image stacking radiolaria have been seen as the arch enemy of the micro photograph! We are still not friends today!

Re: Radiolarians
If 40x, why not a dry 40x ? the ornamentation pattern of the radiolarian does not call for high resolution, so perhaps the 40x0.65 ? or is it because the 40x1.0 is a planapo ? yet the images are grayscale, so ?...
P.S. I am asking out of similar concerns about my specimens...
Re: Radiolarians
I find it impressive that you successfully used this particular objective given its ridiculously small working distance on an object as difficult as radiolarians.
Very nice images!

Good point on the B/W + using dry 40x. Will have a go
In hindsight I think I was just asking for trouble ...
