Wow, at first I thought what a great DIC shot but then I read the description. Tell us more about your oblique setup. To get this high quality detail out of oblique illumination at such an extreme NA is impressive to say the least. Excellent work! The organism is also beautiful. Overall very, very nice!!

I use the rotary condenser to achieve Oblique. I offset the Brightfield port and vary the condenser diaphragm size. This creates effects similar to some dedicated Oblique stops.

A rotating stage is also helpful as it allows one to illuminate the subject from the angle of choice.

Having an Optovar makes it much easier as one can see the changes through the eyepieces - no need to remove them and peer through a phase telescope.

My Optovar has, apart from a magnification changer of 1x, 1.25x, 1.6x, and 2x, an Amici-Bertrand lens (i.e. an auxiliary microscope) and an Analyzer. A must have for anyone with a Zeiss!

Cool, thats how I get oblique out of my condenser too (never tried with the 63/1.4 planapo though). Interesting I thought this method is an unintended feature of the achromat aplanat condenser but in fact its the method suggested by Zeiss in their Phomi II manual (p. 31)

Interesting I thought this method is an unintended feature of the achromat aplanat condenser but in fact its the method suggested by Zeiss in their Phomi II manual (p. 31)

Curious that they suggest just offsetting the iris rather than both the iris and the port itself.

They do instruct to move the port: After the aperture iris has been considerably closed (Cite from p.31), "...Move the revolving disk of the condenser far enough of its position J..."
