Daffodil root tip mitosis

Hi all, I've been taking a few images of some Daffodil root-tip slides that have a lot of mitosis that I though some may like to have a look at. The files of cells being generated by the root-tip's dividing cells (initials in the root-apical-meristem) are clearly visible also.
Anyway, a few images - chromosomes everywhere!

This is a 10x, 3-image stitch - the cell lineages are quite easily seen,

Chromosomes look to be grouping ('condensing'?) and becoming visible I think,

Chromosomes seperating to opposite ends of cell,

Somewhat random images I'm afraid, I was just practicing with the BX40 and though I'd put some colour up!

Very nice! Did you prepare the sections yourself?

I really like how you can see the mitotic spindle fibers and fragmoplast in the last couple of images. If you can it might be worth checking the spindle under polarization. It has anisotropic properties and interacts with polarized in an interesting manner.

I'm with Wes on these images, John. Excellent images; excellent sections; the mitotic spindles very clearly demonstrated.
Thanks for sharing.
Tom.

Thanks Wes & Tom - pleased you like them. These are just from this afternoon's 'slide-surfing' during a quiet hour. I've many images from back when I made the slides also. I'll post a few more later tonight.

Hi Michael, thanks my friend. I'm really starting to find my way around the BX40 now, and am getting far better with the 60x too! Having a great time with my Botany - many tissues in line for slides once we have just a little cooler weather I think.

Thanks 75' - yes stitching with the Olympus (and the LED-kit now fitted) is giving me far better equality of background illumination now. No more of those ghastly 'dark corners' hopefully, that ruin many a lower-power objective stitch... Fingers-crossed. :D

Great! Are the higher power images done with the Oly 60x?.

Yes they are Ed' - I'm just starting to get the hang of the beastie....
A few more images from earlier:

Sieve-plate with 'slime-plug' from Sunflower leaf petiole phloem in TS - I think it was 8 images stacked.
All the rest are single images.
