Lecane rotifer

#1 Post by geos » Thu Aug 15, 2019 1:56 pm

While preparing a slide I applied a bit too much pressure to the cover slip. It injured a rotifer but provided an opportunity to observe a stationary subject. Standard and oblique illumination used. It was recorded a few months ago so I don't recall the objectives used - probably 20x and 40x.

Like a Timex "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'"

Regards to all

Nice video, clear with good detail.

It is possible to pin rotifers and other largish animalcules with the cover slip for a short time, either by waiting for some of the water to evaporate or by soaking some water up with absorbent paper.

Water can then be added to release the beastie by placing a drop on the edge of the cover slip, it is drawn in by capillary action.
