Planapo 63x/1.4, DIC, 60µm length, stacked in Photoshop, Marine sample, Alboran Sea.

I just visited algaebase to look this one up!

Amazing images, easily detailed-enough for taxonomic use surely.

Great images!
The Cocconeis frustules I have seen (after cleaning) do not show these "longitudinal" lines. Either a species difference or the difference between live diatom and frustule ? or just a DIC-specific feature ?

Not DIC specific :) It may however be species related - see link
