Stage control issues

#1 Post by Marco68 » Tue Apr 21, 2020 4:50 pm

Hi,

As you can see in the video I see some micro-movements when I move the stage control. Any idea ? Rack and pinion issue ? Any idea to solve it ?

Micro-movements:

Rack and pinion:

Stage control from below:

Thanks !

It looks like stick-slip [stiction] where something is not moving sweetly ... Effort is required to overcome the friction; but once moving, it carries-on.

It seems unlikely that there will be any useful adjustment, so a clean and re-grease may be all that you can do.

Sorry, i realize now i posted in the wrong section ! Not sure if the administrator can move it to the right section or if i have to cancel it...

Thanks Michael,
Actually no effort is required. It looks like if there is some loose screw somewhere or the rack and pinion do not fit perfectly/ not perfect coupling (i think in english it is called .. backlash ?).

Furthermore, i can move the stage by applying a force in one direction to the stage control..is this ok? I thought the stage should move only by knob rotation...

Thanks for clarifying that, Marco
If it’s looseness and backlash, you may be able to adjust some of it out
... careful inspection of all the fixtures and fittings, and improve whatever you can !
and ... The application of some ‘damping grease’ might help.

Sorry, I obviously misinterpreted the ‘juddering’ movement in your video.

.
Chris Dee mentions some reasonably priced grease, here:
