Actinocyclus subtilis
Actinocyclus subtilis
Planapo 63x/1.4, DIC, 65µm, stacked in Photoshop, Marine sample, Alboran Sea.
Now that they are letting us out and about I went down to the port and collected another seaweed sample.
Always seem to be plenty of diatoms to be found when one picks some up with tweezers and taps lightly on a slide.

Re: Actinocyclus subtilis
I've been curious about your strategy to sample and photograph diatoms. Thanks for giving us some hints!

Superb !

Cool, I like these very much! Great work.
Have you considered doing permanent diatom slides?

Fantastic images.
Re: Actinocyclus subtilis
Lovely diatoms, and images of them. Well done, sir.
Try tapping harder and see if you get even better results?

Many thanks RobBerdan, Chris Dee and KurtM!
Those of us who are 'fortunate' to have one, know how finicky they can be ;)
Tried that, it tends to dislodge grains of sand that impede the cover slip from laying flat enough to use the 63x.Try tapping harder and see if you get even better results?

Great looking diatoms.
They're easing up access here a bit starting tomorrow, so I hope to get some salt water samples this week myself!
