Chaoborus - Phantom Midge Fly Larva

#1 Post by RobBerdan » Wed May 27, 2020 7:42 pm

A few weeks ago I posted some images of Chaoborus the phantom midge fly larva also called a Glassworm because of its transparency.

I continued to photograph the pupa, its prey and made a movie of rotifers living on the Chaoborus. I just posted an article about the
biology of this organism along with references to research papers and show how I built a mini-aquarioum to photograph the larva.

If interested please see my article: https://www.canadiannaturephotographer. ... borus.html

Some pics from the article.

I remember your Chaoborus images, good to see details on how you took those photos.

Like how you keep things simple when you explain things, tis the secret of good teaching.

That is quite amazing. This is far over my head but I sure do like it. Also your link to your work was just so interesting. The close up's of the larva head are scary. Love all your different microscopes and your explaining how you take images. Thanks for sharing your work.
