These are plants that get all their nutrients from the air and sunshine and don't need soil. My friend just puts them on the windowsill or ties them to the blinds.
I found two interesting features. They have elaborate stomata on both the leaf and the root. They also have what looks like some kind of collector located over the surfaces.

Hi, I'm afraid I just can't make sense of the images, there's just a combination of too much magnification and too little resolution I'm afraid.
This is a pity because it's an interesting subject. I can't with any confidence identify the structures you mention....
