Include the link to the actual image in [img] tags like this:
[img]http://www......filename.jpg[/img]

At the end you need the name of the file.

Problem is Dropbox stopped linking. Not sure when this happened or why.

Create a folder called public in your Dropbox root directory (if it is not already there). Place your images into this folder and then you can link to them.

The link of the above picture should look like this:

Try placing the picture into the "public" folder and then linking from there. The moss picture above is also in Dropbox.

Just have the one folder.
Do I have to create a public one.
Is that the correct name. You do not mean "shared folder" do you?

no, not shared. Every folder can be shared anyway, but this is not done here. Call the folder "public" (without quotation marks) and DropBox should automatically recognize it as special. No additional sharing is necessary. Put the folder into the root directly (the topmost level).

I am using computer terminology, and this might be a bit unclear. When I say "root" then I mean the topmost directory in Dropbox.
Notice the Public folder in the middle here:

There is the world on the folder and this means that the folder is treated differently.

You can also directly visit http://www.dropbox.com and log in and then make the pubic folder directly in there.

Created one from website as the one I created on the computer did not seem to work.
No world logo on folder as yet either.

Hmm. I found this one here:
https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/16
They did change something.
I still have an old Dropbox account and the public folder still exists. Now, however, things are indeed different. Will check this out.

1. Save your picture in any folder on dropbox, does not have to be public (the public folder was relevant before 2012, I have an old account)
2. in Dropbox (in the Web Browser) click on the picture to see the picture on black background.
3. On the bottom right corner there are three dots ("More Actions"), next to the trashcan. Click on this.
4. A menu appears. Click "View Original"
5. The picture will appear on white background with a long link.
6. Copy this link and place it into [img][/img] tags.

Argh!!! :( I just found out that the picture is only visible as long as you are logged in into dropbox. This is not good. This is really unfortunate. I will try to find a solution for this.

I think you will probably have to create an "Insert Button" in the control box.
