Olympus DP70

#1 Post by Plasmid » Sat Nov 21, 2020 4:26 am

I recently found a seller with a batch of Olympus DP70 cameras for under $100, A quick google search shows that they are 13 megapixels approx but not much else is said. Does anyone have any experience with the DP70 and is it worth it specially when compared to more modern cameras now days,? also what software if any will one need to run this cameras? And lastly is video an option or just photos?
Thank you

I have not checked, but I suspect that software availability might be an issue.

Meanwhile: https://www.olympus-lifescience.com/en/ ... ympusdp70/

Are you prepared to share your source ... or do you intend grabbing the lot ?

Yeah that pci card makes it just not worth it to me, specially since the drivers would probably not work on anything newer that windows XP., I've seen some cameras on AliExpress for under $300 with comparable image quality.
Thank you

Very nice, I found the software for the DP71 on the Olympus site but nothing on the DP70, Im guessing the phototube would be a hard to find item specially if not used on an Olympus scope.

I’ve just found the User’s Manual

Can’t seem to post a link, because the Google search result takes you straight to the download.

Search for olympus dp70 user's manual
and select the one starting 12567195

38 page PDF downloaded instantly to the iPad ...
No problems detected but, of course, I can’t promise that it’s clean

Not sure if Instructions DP70 is the same as the User's Manual

Link to Instructions DP70: http://www.olympuschina.com/upload/acce ... 596744.pdf

Anyway, says it works with:

1. Windows XP
2. Windows 2000
3. Windows NT 4.0
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)

The Olympus DP cameras are powerful but must be used with a specific frame grabber board and proprietary expensive Olympus software. Their chief advantage, I think, is high sensitivity. Not so critical in non-research microscopy. In contrast to some of their competitors, Olympus do not provide free software AFAIK.

Seems unlikely, as it’s 27 pages not 38 ... but I have not yet directly compared them.
