I have an Amscope T490 (trinocular head) and would like to use my Sony A6000 on the photo port. Amscope does not sell a specific adapter for a Sony A6000 e-mount. Is anyone using a Sony A6000 and recommend an adapter to use with this camera? I've found some online but not sure what to avoid and what is good. Any recommendations?

I use an a5000 on several microscopes, so the same as your 6000. Each microscope has the basic tube which the microscope came with. I DIY'd a T mount to fit each, and made sure it could be moved relative to the photo relay lens, which resides in the tube. From there, I use various distance pieces; macro rings and couplers to maximize the field coverage, while maintaining parfocality.


If you post a picture of what the microscope is currently equipped with, I might be able to make some suggestions.

Hello, here is a photo of my microscope. I've found several e-mount adapters for the A6000 online for approx $110 but unsure if these are the best option. Any advice will help as I am new to to this hobby and know very little about my options. thank you.

What are the I.D. and O.D. of that aluminum tube emerging from the trinoc?

Hi Randy,
your microscope has a 160mm finity optic. I think that at least the stronger objectives will need correction eyepieces. There are two typical methods to adapt a camera:
1. lift the eyepiece a bit (e.g. 10mm) to project the image directly on the sensor
2. leave photo eyepiece parfocal to viewing eyepieces and adpat camera via a pancake camera lens. A Pentax M 40mm 1:2,8 is good for APS-C

I have the impression, that today the second method is preferred. I use it and am very satisfied with it.

On ebay you can buy lots of different adapters from camera lens mount or lens filter ring mount to c-mount, d-mount, T2, M42 etc.. This will give you a good starting point.

If you are having trouble finding a specific E-mount adapter you can buy an adapter for a legacy format like M42 and then buy an adapter that allows you to use M42 lens on your camera, looks like this:



In this case I have an eyepiece to M42 adapter that was fitted with a M42 to Micro Four Thirds adapter that allowed me to use my camera.
