At mmc2019, I attended an excellent presentation by Dr Louis Keal
Today, I received a copy of his PowerPoint slides

Obviously he has a commercial interest; but this was just a masterly presentation of facts.

Thanks for the post. It is a comprehensive and exhaustive review.
Excuses for keeping silent so far:
1. A part of the contents (with which I am familiar; e. g. Gain, ADC, noise) is not very relevant for amateur photomicrography, at least not directly.
2. With local inside temperatures at the 30-35C, and local RH 65-70%, sensor pixels (and neurons) dissolve and merge into one blurred meaningless cloud.
