Video Editing Software

Hello,

Currently I use the Video Editor software that comes with Win 10, and I also have Windows Movie Maker. I've noticed that Movie Maker occasionally makes my monitor black out for a split second, which I've read is most likely related to drivers being incompatible as Movie Maker is no longer supported by Microsoft. The Video Editor is okay but I've been thinking about getting a third-party video editing program and was just wondering what programs you guys may use for your scope videos.

Thank you for your input.

Joe

Hi Joe,
I'm no expert here, but I asked some colleagues at work and the reply was Magix, deluxe edition, not necessarily the newest version. This is what i use not and I think it is quite good and not too difficult to learn. There are also a lot of tutorials on youtube. The simpler versions have some severe limitations and are not recommended.

Gave Shotcut a try and for what I want it is perfect with lots of file formats supported. I have old version of Adobe Premiere Pro which also does the job but does not support the newer versions of movie files.

Many thanks for the heads up.

I was wondering the same thing. I use W10 and have colour accuracy issues plus I can only save in jpeg (that I can find, anyway). Just want to capture camera images and vids accurately with little editing required. Will have a look at those couple mentioned.

Hi i use 3 different edit software. Davinchi Resolve 16 free but hard learning curve! Filmora 9 very easy to learn not free, Filmora pro not free. Both of Filmora edit software is not so expensive. //KD

I second the Davinci resolve free option-it’s ability to adjust colours is excellent-its a deep program but you can use it simply as well for editing and rendering and go as deep as you want-hey KD Arvidsson-just be glad you don’t have the non free version that came with my camera-I went back to the free version-don’t think I need 3-D motion tracking and blue screen tools just to film microbes!

I use Corel VideoStudio. I bought the program when it was discounted. I also use Paintshop Pro, which is the Corel photo editing product. By the way there is an excellent free screen grabber program called FastStone capture. I use it to save and early process my images that are generated by Camera in Windows. You can also grab frames from your videos to make them into stills.

I use FFmpeg. Its free and many of the video editors you know are based on it. You can do pretty much anything with it, its really good but has a bit of a steep learning curve.

I use Corel Photo Studio. But I use it concert with a slide-making program called Photostage. The latter complies a bunch of short segments quickly into a video. I add this compilation into Photo Studio that adds fancy stuff like music, titles, and the like.

Have you heard about movavi https://www.movavi.com/? I used their software for a while, it's easy to use and gives nice results. Apart from video editing, they've got stuff for image and pdf editing.

I've always thought Windows Movie Maker is something like Paint or Explorer which you use only when you have no other choice. Am I wrong?

Even paint has got upgraded you know. It all depends on your goals, for trimming and other basics functions, WMM is a good program.

I don't do a lot of video editing, but I use this as well. It replaced my usage of mencoder and ffmpeg for most of the cutting, splicing, transcoding, etc.

If you ask me today I wouldn't recommend Magix any more!
My deluxe 2016 plus version stopped to work properly - it tries to download some audio add-in and this doesn't work. Apparently the software is only usable for as long as they want you to. So not worth the money and time for learning to use it.

Kdenlive looks good! I will give it a try.

That thread is 4 years old! Reddit isn't the best place to look... With freeware like Openshot and others one might as well download the latest versions of several of then. Then just try them out and see which one you like :)

You cant use CAMTASIA STUDION or FILMORA BY WONDERSHARE both are extremely easy and somehow close to WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER. I prefer CAMTASIA as it comes with built in Screen Recording Software. Have a nice day to you.

Openshot is very easy to use/learn . My fav.

VSDC, https://www.videosoftdev.com/
also free, has a very neat colour correction gizmo.

Shotcut does not work, when I last looked, on my windows7, it demands some extra dlls which are present in its folder but it does not seem to know that !

Do we know what Oliver/Microbehunter uses ?

The Draw back of Openshot is as I know It export file in very large Size like when I edit video for my Youtube Channel 5 Min video exceed 300 MBS :o :o then I had to go for the video editor and then compress the size of the video. No doubt Openshot is very good and easy to use.
